Happy little sunshine carry on your way

Don’t let the gray come and take you away

Think happy thoughts and pay no mind to the voices that plot

To make you think things you would never have thought

Down with the monarchy of destruction and false contemplation

Arise kingdom of resurrection and true affirmation

Don’t listen to the lies

Don’t give them a foothold

Don’t even consider looking their way

Lend sweet thoughts your ears

Pay kindness a visit

Give into the wishes of light

I wanted to write to express some creativity inside me that I have been neglecting lately. Caught up in the throes of school and work and driving hundreds of miles I haven’t created something, for myself, in a hot minute. Sure I’ve written academic papers and reading Shakespeare, but not for like kicks and giggles so it doesn’t count. [Don’t even try and argue here because I’m on the verge of throwing a toddler-in-tiara level tantrum in record reaction time 24/7 lately]

ANYWAYS all that to say with school starting there will be a lot of stress and newness in the lives of a lot of young people, check in with them, okay? Even if we look okay, we have you snowed, unless you’re our mother. 89% of the time I’m stressed TO THE MAX because I have some twisted psychological desire to just burn myself out completely and entirely. It’s not healthy, and I know that and I’m working on it… this is a step.

Don’t write us off because we are young and will bounce back, our mental health needs you to kindly speak to us. Our mental health needs you to step in and in love ask hard questions that may have hard conversations attached to them.

Young women, mentor younger women.

Older women, find even older women to speak life into you. Then, take that life and breath it into someone younger than you.

Lets help build each other up instead of just ignoring each other. Social media is not a substitute for human connection.

Young men don’t feel as if though you can’t express yourself. Cry. Laugh unapologetically. Be happy and be sad and feel your emotions. I won’t judge you and the people who actually support you won’t judge you either.

Just remember at the end of the day to be yourself.

Be real with yourself.

Be kind to yourself.

Be true to yourself…

The older you will thank the younger you later.
